Helical Tieback Anchor Solutions
What are Helical Tiebacks? A home is the most important investment a person can make, not to mention the valuable possessions within it. Foundation damage can make your home insecure and unstable. We offer foundation repair solutions, such as helical tiebacks, to secure and correct deteriorating basement walls. What are helical tiebacks? Helical tiebacks are horizontal rods used to support to strengthen and straighten bowed basement or retaining walls. Helical tieback anchors size and load requirements are engineered specific. With high load capacities these anchors make an excellent choice for critical soil retention applications.
Basement Wall Repair in Kentucky and Indiana
Do you have bowing or leaning basement walls? There is a major difference between the two, but they both indicate foundation failure. A leaning wall starts with a horizontal crack at the top of the wall and is a result of expansive soil. Bowed walls also has a horizontal crack, but it spreads down the wall and it is caused by hydrostatic pressure. Over time, these wall cracks will start to widen or get longer. This allows moisture and water to seep into the basement, which causes mold and mildew growth. Wall cracks also allow rodents and insects to enter your basement.
Water is the key ingredient to soil related issues. Excess water leads to soil expansion or heaving. Not enough water causes soil shrinkage. Both of these conditions cause a moisture imbalance that affects the foundation. Inspect your home for the following to avoid future foundation repairs:
- Hydrostatic Pressure – Hydrostatic pressure can be caused by excess water that creates pressure against the walls or the soil surrounding the property expands and creates pressure on the foundation wall. To avoid hydrostatic pressure, make sure you have adequate drainage and runoff. Clean your gutters on a regular basis and install proper downspouts.
- Poor Ground Preparation – If the soil is improperly compacted beneath the foundation, it can be unstable. Heavy vibrations or traffic can also affect the foundation.
- Poor Soil Conditions – Poor soil and debris causes soil expansion.
- Remodeling – Additional floors built to an existing building or home
- Plumbing Leaks – Caused by frozen or broken pipes
- Tree Roots – Trees and shrubs planted too close to your foundation can cause bowing and leaning foundation.
If you are experiencing bowing and leaning walls, we offer helical tiebacks to support and stabilize your basement walls. Some of the advantages of helical tiebacks are:
- Ease of installation with limited access
- Lightweight equipment is used
- Strength and ease of measuring capacity
- Not adversely effected by weather
- They are load tested immediately upon installation
- Little to no vibration or soil displacement
What Are The Different Uses and Applications For Helical Tiebacks?
Helical tiebacks are used for many applications such as:
- Sea walls
- Basement walls
- Retaining walls
- Shoring
- Temporary wall support
- Tilt up construction
How Are Helical Tiebacks Installed?
Helical tiebacks are installed with one end of the tieback secured to the wall, the other end is anchored to a stable structure. This tieback structure resists forces that would otherwise cause the wall to lean. These helical tiebacks will take the wall and pull it back into place.
While piles are typically installed to prevent or stop vertical foundation movement, helical tiebacks are used to prevent or stop lateral movement. When a wall is built below surface level as in a basement, or as a retaining wall detached from any structure, the wall is faced with tremendous hydraulic pressure. As soils expand due to rain, immense pressure pushes the wall, causing buckling, cracking, or bowing basement walls or a shift / bowing of retaining walls.Walls are built to withstand a certain amount of pressure. Over time, this pressure is exceeded and the lateral pressure causes walls to bow. If the drainage around the foundation is inadequate, standing water will cause even more pressure. This is one of the leading causes of bowing basement walls. These bowing walls can lead to total foundation failure. Our helical tiebacks will solve the problem and keep your home safe.
If you have noticed that your basement wall is bowed, this occurs as a result of the soil pushing against the wall. This can happen several ways. If the soil is not compacted well at the time of construction, the soil will shift, causing your foundation to settle. Changes in temperature and saturation causes the soil beneath to shrink and expand. As this happens, your foundation begins to settle into the soil beneath. This settlement and shifting causes pressure on your foundation and walls. So if you see your basement walls starting to bow, Champion has the helical tieback solution for you.
If your home is built on clay soil, it will accelerate the foundation settlement of your home. Clay soil is more subject to the changes in expansion and contraction depending on the amount of water it has at any given time. Clay expands when saturated and when it dries, it contracts causing foundation settlement.
